The holidays are the best time of the year
with celebrations and fun with family and friends, but what will make the end
of this year the most meaningful of all? Check out this list of “10 Things to do and make a Habit before 2013
Ends” and see how much happiness you can give and make before 2014 come
around!
1.) Call
a friend or family member. Nowadays, communicating to one another is easy
as sending an email or text message with adorable emoticons, but when was the
last time you actually gave time to a person who is dear to you by giving them
several minutes with a call. Don’t you think it is more heart-felt when you
actually can hear their voice?
2.) Read
a book.Technology is everywhere we look, even when it comes to books where
e-books and tablets have taken over the traditional covered pages of a real
‘book’. When was the last time you took time to sit down to smell and listen as
the pages turn? Just enjoy a book!
3.) Cook
a homemade meal. When was the last time you took out a cookbook or asked
someone a recipe for a filling home cooked meal? Everything is so convenient
now with fast-food and high-class restaurants; let’s not forget the joy of
shopping for ingredients and taking time to putting love and effort into a
scrumptious meal for your family and friends.
4.) Appreciate
nature. When was the last time you went to the park or took a walk on the
beach? Nowadays, everything gets jumbled up in busy lives with school, work,
and what-not, but there should always be time to relax and take a deep breath
from civilization and take a walk on the beach or have a picnic at the park.
5.) Write
not type. Sometimes it almost seems as if the only time people write
anymore is to answer an exam at school; remember sending Grandma a Christmas
card years ago? Or writing your very own birthday card for a friend? Grab a pen
and paper and write away, either send a card, or write a love letter, even just
write a to-do-list, just give time to use the power of your hands instead of
the battery of your phone or tab.
6.) Savor
your “My-Time.” Nowadays, we spend time at malls with friends or gather
around with people all the time; we don’t give time for our own self. Just
spend a couple minutes or even a day of celebrating your peace and appreciation
for yourself or just have relaxation by lying down in bed.
7.) Give
things some thought. When someone asks you what do you want to do or how
you are going to do it, don’t feel obligated to answer right then and there.
Just give it as long as you need to think it over, answering right away with a
‘yes’ or ‘no’ can be devastating to plans.
8.) Give
technology a break. Technology is such a huge portion in our daily life,
sometime we forget the feeling of how it was before all the ‘tweeting’ and ‘texting’
became mainstream. Take a break for a day to just play a board game with your
family, or charades with your friends.
9.) Make
a stranger smile. You don’t have to just communicate with your friends and
family, make a random person on the side of the road or someone in line smile
by telling them to have a great day or complimenting their clothes. If you’re
afraid of strangers, remember that everyone you know now has been a stranger
once.
10.) Celebrate
over dinner. Celebrations are definitely in store with the holidays here,
how about celebrating them with a long and calming dinner? Try something new at
a nice restaurant with a group of friends and family rather than being rushed
at fast-food restaurants.
How many of these things are you planning
to do? You have just a couple more days left! Write a list, and just enjoy
yourself, make this year’s end a memorable one!
What have you done so memorable this year?
