Christ Jesus suffered with the people and died with the people when He walked on Earth, He never exalted Himself higher than them although He deserved to most glorious name.

The Iglesia Ni Cristo church in Tacloban, Leyte was untouched by the storm and still stood tall in all the debris created by super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda local name). Yes, it is good for them that they and their church survived the devastating typhoon but a story by a staff member was related to the public.

The wind was still raging, trees were still toppling over, and iron sheets to many homes of fellow Filipinos were flying all over the area, also rain was still pouring when this happened. Filipinos around the area were frightened, cold, wet, hungry and tired while they were instinctively looking for shelter. Everyone’s first thought when it comes to shelter is of course local schools and churches. Nearing the Iglesia Ni Cristo church, fellow victims and Filipino citizens were refused a safe shelter because they were ‘not members of their church’.

The attitude of the church was shocking to hear for all of us. As a fellow citizen and fellow follower of God, we should live life as God would, with love for one another. The church made a perfect impression of the unmerciful innkeepers towards the wonderful news of the birth of Jesus Christ, refusing them. The church took pride for surviving the typhoon, but was it worth it to lose your soul? It is not a house of God when there is no heart of charity and love towards one another, without so, it becomes a house of evil.

During the disaster, a Cathedral in Tacloban, Leyte was destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda and was caught on tape due to the reason that people and media men were taking shelter in the Cathedral when it happened. Many people died due to this catastrophe, and our pride and glory should be in the thought that our Church should be the home for the needy and poor.
