According to reports of the Daily News Thailand (via MacRumors), police in Thailand found the body of an unnamed man dead in his room while holding his iPhone4s which was still plugged into the socket with a third-party charger.

A picture taken from the scene shows the man which seems to have acquired severe burn marks along his neck, chest, and hand. A picture is also provided of his Apple charger which is assumed a cheap third-party charger as it is the color blue and not white like the original Apple chargers.

Although the cause of death hasn’t been specified, prompting officials suspect the cause was of electrocution because of the injuries on his body. Currently the body has been taken to a hospital near the area for further inspection.

The man’s father has said that he saw his son lounging on the floor shirtless the day before due to the weather and heard a cry from his son’s room later that night but ignored the noise as he assumed it part of his son’s sleepwalking. His body was found the next morning and his father believes that one of the causes is he was talking on the phone while charging.

Although very rare, incidents like this has happened before with Apple users. Just July this year, a Chinese woman was killed by an electrical shock after answering a call on her iPhone5. Weeks later, a Chinese man was put into a coma after an electrical shock while charging his iPhone4 in July. Another incident the month later which gave a Chinese woman eye-injuries after her iPhone5 explode. All of these incidents have been connected to non-authentic Apple chargers.

Due to the injuries of people and their Apple products, most likely caused by fake Apple chargers, Apple announced in August a counter-action for third-party chargers where people who own counterfeit or third-party Apple chargers could swap them in for official and certified Apple models which would be equivalent to $10.

Although you may be afraid of iPhones and Apple now, Samsung has also gotten a report in the past wherein a Galaxy S4 exploded and burned down a house in Hong Kong.
Do you have a third-party or fake charger for your phone? I suggest you buy or exchange your charger for a legit one as soon as possible just for safety precautions!
