September 28, 2013 history is made as 23-year old actress Megan Young was crowned as Miss World 2013. Representing Philippines, she is the first ever Filipina representative to have won the title of Miss World 2013: Philippines since the year 1966.

Fans all around the country screamed and shouted as the thrilling and pulse-racing coronation night was streamed live all over the net. When announced as winner, the whole country could have been heard cheering.

Out of all 126 international candidates she kept her title of the ‘crowd favorite’ even though controversies were tried at her. Megan Young humbly became the successor of China’s Wenxia Yu who gave up the crown to pass onto Megan during the event which was held at Bali, Indonesia in the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center.

The coronation night of the pageant was spectacular as cultural dances were showcased and performances were presented form boybands like Britain’s, Blue. The hosts of the event were Miss Scotland 2012 Jennifer Reoch and Mister World 2010 Kamal Ibrahim.

Many people expected the win by Philippines’ Megan Young as she placed in many challenges and always seem to shine when it came to publicity. She was supported by her places in 5th of the Beach Fashion, 4th in Multimedia Contest, and 1st in the Top Model challenge.

Other preliminary challenges and winners were announced on Saturday recognizing the Sports Challenge winner as Jaqueline Steenbeek from the Netherlands, Beach Fashion’s winner was Sancler Frantz from Brazil, India won the Multimedia, and Ishani Shrestha from Nepal claimed the Beauty with a Purpose award.

Proud Kapamilya star also had a push as she was one of the few chosen to have a solo spot during the cultural dances as she represented the Maranao dance, Singkil.

As Megan took the crown, Marine Lorphelin of France took second and Carranzar Shooter of Ghana finished with third. The complete list of Top 5 included were Elena Ibarbia from Spain, Sancler Frantz from Brazil, and Jessica Baldachino from Gibraltar.

One of the highlights of the night was the Question & Answer portion where each candidate had to answer the question of, “Why should you become Miss World?

Megan wowed the judges and audience as she thanked the crowd with their native Indonesian language and dazzled the stage with her pink Francis Libiran gown and answered ‘short and sweet’. “I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides people why they act the way they do. I will use this to show other people how they can understand each other... As one, we can help society.” was Megan’s answer that gave her a thunderous applause.

Prior to her answer, Reoch and Megan were able to have small-talk about the amazing cheer she got from the audience. As she answered her personality showed a different and spunky side to her as she answered with, “I actually brought half of the Philippines here!"

Megan Young was preceded by equally competitive and stunning Filipinas in the pageants before as Gwendoline Ruais finished 1st runner-up and Queneerich Rehman got a place in the Top 15 during the 2011 and 2012 pageants respectively.

All of Philippines is wholly proud of Megan Young and her accomplishment in Miss World 2013 as she showed the whole World Pinoy Pride. Let’s keep updated even after her journey to the crown as she lives on as Miss World 2013!
